Artist Statement...

Having had a successful Nursing career for 20 plus years, I did not develop a real interest in art until after the birth of my daughter in the late 1990's after being diagnosed and treated for post-natal depression and anxiety. These tumultuous times were life changing and creating art became a significant part of my recovery and continued daily existence in allowing an outlet to express my emotions.

My passion for art grew and I began to devour art book after art book. Although largely self-taught, my continued quest for artistic knowledge and expression brought both frustration and further inner turmoil and eventually I completed a 'Diploma of Visual Arts' I
now paint full -time preparing for upcoming exhibitions in my art studio located in Brisbane, Australia. I am perhaps best known for my emotive and vibrant landscapes and soulful and somewhat emotional figurative pieces. My paintings now generate a devoted following from art lovers and buyers both in Australia and internationally.

I generally produce 'Series of Artworks' and my choice of medium, texture, colour, tone, emotion and symbolic references are intuitive and reactive. Each 'series' tends to trancend from one into another, by one or more of elements crossing over into the next series of work.
My Landscapes often express a contemporary investigation into traditions of the Australian landscape painting and what it is too experience the large silent spaces of the interior of our country and the rugged Australian coastline. I strive to capture the essence of that moment, a sense of presence and the spirit of place. Sometimes the figure will intervene within these spaces to describe narratives and a sense of position within an Australian Context

The inspiration for my figurative artworks often find there origins from dreams, memories past, immediate surroundings and social observations. The figure commonly dominates the composition which becomes the springboard in allowing an arrange of emotions to explode forth. They can be turbulent, moody, contemplative, sad, lonely, and hopeful. Accompaning the figure is often a host of symbolic references, subtexts and subtle humorous or dark sentiments hovering.

I guess my artworks tend to be part reflective, part confessional and part observation.
